“Little children, let us love, not just in word and in speech, but in truth and in action.”
1 John 3:18

I am excited about hosting Halos and Hammers at MSCC this summer! If you missed the video in church on April 15th about this amazing youth group, go to our website and see for yourself what all the fuss is about! I was working with the original group of teens when they began their efforts to provide hurricane relief in 2004, and I am enormously proud of them for continuing this good work through the years.

Halos and Hammers began when the teens in my Connecticut youth group saw four major hurricanes hit the state of Florida in one year. They had an overwhelming desire to help the people who were affected by these devastating storms. Together, we organized fundraisers to purchase building materials, and recruited volunteers with construction experience to help. That first year, 72 of us traveled from Connecticut to Volusia County, Florida, where we spent the week repairing three homes damaged by hurricanes. It was a life-changing experience for all of us, so we set out to do it again the following year! Since then, the group has traveled each summer to provide much-needed home repairs for those who have been affected by circumstances beyond their control.

This year, Halos and Hammers will be investing their time and talents here in South Florida. A group of approximately 35 teens and adults will arrive on June 23rd with their tools, sleeping bags, and air mattresses. For six nights they will sleep on the floor in our Social Hall, working during the day at different homes, and showering at the community pool. Please pray for this hardworking group of young Christians, and join us as we reach out to help our neighbors and friends. If you would like to bring snacks for the kids or make a donation toward the purchase of building supplies, we welcome your support! Please call the church office at 305-759-3445.

With you on the journey,

Rev. Meg Watson
