The Minister’s Minute: March & April

“Faith, hope, and love abide….but the greatest of these is love”
1 Corinthians 13:13

Friends,

The Miami Shores Community Church is proud to partner with our sister churches all across America in the Three Great Loves initiative. For the next two years, we will be challenged to focus our mission and ministry on three things we know God loves, and has entrusted to our care: our neighbors, the children, and the earth. As you read through these pages, look for the ways we are already working together to fulfill this call.

For instance, I’m excited about the yard sign project, making our love for our neighbors visible in our communities. I hope you will take one home and let your love light shine! I also feel blessed to be able to offer our neighbors the chance to have needed repairs done on their homes for free by the Halos and Hammers youth group we are hosting this summer. If you or someone you know has any home repair projects for these hardworking teens (large or small), please send me an email so we can put them on the list!

Our Missions and Social Justice Committee launched a seven week series during Lent to educate the members of our congregation about environmental issues. Each week, we’ve been given practical information and helpful advice about how to better care for this world that God so loves. We’ll have our first-ever meatless potluck on Earth Day, (Sunday, April 22), and share our favorite earth-friendly recipes.
Finally, in solidarity with students and teachers everywhere, we will stand with survivors of the tragic school shooting in Parkland at March For Our Lives, at 9:00 am on March 24th in nearby Parkland, Florida. Please keep that community and our nation in your prayers. For the love of the children, let us commit to leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to end the escalating violence that has already taken too many innocent lives.

In this season of renewal, may God renew in all of our hearts the desire to love as Jesus loved.

With you on the journey,

Rev. Meg Watson
